After Receiving the Moss | 90-Day Care Plan (Single Screen)

T0

Unboxing (5–10 minutes)

Operation: Open the package, check humidity, and take photos.

Quick Inspection: Flat and dry; grayish but not yellowish.

Avoid: Long soaking, sealed storage without ventilation.

T24–48 Hours

Wake-Up and Planting

Wake-Up: Wet the moss thoroughly with a spray bottle and let it sit for 2–3 minutes.

Place: Bright, indirect light, away from direct sunlight or heaters.

Planting: Place the moss on a clean substrate (volcanic rock, bark, or sphagnum moss), spray 1–2 times with a fine mist, and air it out for 10–15 minutes.

Goal: Revitalize the moss and display its green color.

Days 3–7

Acclimation

Watering Rhythm: Rolling = Spray; Laying = Pause. Beginners: Lightly mist every other day.

Inspection: ✅ Greener, no odor; ⚠️ White fuzz/condensation → Reduce watering and maintain ventilation.

Goal: The moss should acclimate and stabilize within the first week.

Week 2 (Days 8–14)

Design and Adjustments

Light & Ventilation: If the light is too dim, move closer to a window; if it's too humid, increase ventilation.

Design: Experiment with various scenarios and cover the moss wherever you want.

Adjustments: Fix small gaps by pressing moss scraps together to create a natural covering.

Goal: A more uniform appearance, with the moss blending seamlessly with its surroundings.

Weeks 3–4 (Days 15–28)

Stabilization and Maintenance

Pruning: Remove yellowing or rotting areas and keep the moss neat and tidy.

Mixing: Use live moss in key areas and preserved moss in the background if needed.

Goal: Stable growth, minimal mold, and an overall neat appearance.

Month 2 (Weeks 5–8)

Routine Maintenance

Watering: Mist every 3–5 days and ventilate the area afterwards.

Lighting: If natural light is insufficient, supplement with LED lighting (8–10 hours per day).

Inspection: Remove fallen leaves or algae and keep the substrate aerated.

Month 3 (Weeks 9–12)

Growth and Development

Expansion: Plant healthy moss in an open area. Expect new growth within 2–4 weeks.

Goal: Achieve a long-term, stable display with minimal maintenance (mist once or twice a week).

“Waterfall Zen Garden. The misting feature of the waterfall was cool, except it gets everything wet. The moss is the perfect plant for the misting effect. I purchased a 3" Lasagna pan, filled it with potting soil and lifted the waterfall on 3" empty bottles. The mist gently waters the moss and surrounding house plants and also humidifies the air. The Moss is loving the mist and the plants are growing strong. The moss adds the perfect touch of green without obstructing the view of the waterfall.”
